Are you a beginner biker?
No matter your age, our partners at Bike Walk Tompkins can provide you with biking lessons.
💰 Cutting Commuting Costs - How much does it cost you to fill up your gas tank? Biking regularly can save the average commuter between $1,500 and $2,000 per year.
🚗 Fighting Fossil Fuels - A single gallon of combusted gas produces approximately 25 lbs of carbon dioxide (CO2), but a single bike produces 0 lbs of C02! If all of us committed to biking once a week to work, we could eliminate millions of lbs of C02 emissions in Tompkins County!
❤️🩹 Improving Personal Health - From head to toe, biking produces significant benefits for our physical and mental health in many ways for all ages. Some of these benefits include greater cardiovascular health and lower blood pressure, improved mental health, and heightened cognitive function well into older age.
🕜 Saving Time - How often do you get caught in traffic during rush hour on your way to work or home? Biking can save us a lot of time, especially in condensed residential and commercial areas of Tompkins County, by eliminating many single-occupant vehicles (SOVs) from the road.
𐃃 Wear your helmet (and ensure that any/all children below age 14 are wearing helmets!)
🚦Follow all traffic laws, such as stopping at red lights and stop signs, and yielding to pedestrians.
🚗 Always ride in the same direction as the flow of traffic - never against traffic!
🦺 If visibility around you is poor, wear bright and/or reflective clothing, or put lights on your bike.
🫱🏼 Use hand signals to communicate any changes in your direction to those around you.
🚧 Avoid off-limit or dangerous areas, such as private property, construction sites, or uneven terrain.
